"abstract": "Rather surprisingly, the incidence of type 2 diabetes among participants in three large longitudinal studies in North America was substantially lower in those who drank alcohol often than in non-drinkers or infrequent drinkers ( Diabetes Care doi:10.2337/dc24-1902). The smallest risk of diabetes was observed in people who drank small or moderate amounts of alcohol on more than 5 days a week. The underlying mechanisms are a mystery, and the investigators are at pains not to suggest initiating alcohol consumption as a means of prevention.",
