  "abstract": "Athletes with disabilities are participating in sports more frequently and competing at higher intensities. Indeed, the number of Paralympic athletes has increased successively across multiple Paralympic Games. 1 2 While the policies and cardiac characteristics of athletes without disabilities have been extensively studied, work is lacking for athletes with disabilities, thus limiting evidence-based care for this population. As the number of athletes with disabilities increases, it is imperative to better define this group’s cardiovascular system while also defining best practices for preparticipation cardiac screening, management of those athletes with cardiovascular disease and emergency action plans (EAP). In this editorial, we seek to outline existing evidence while exploring opportunities for future study.",
