  "abstract": "Ramadan is observed by Muslims worldwide through a month-long diurnal fasting, a practice that brings unique challenges for patients with diabetes. Regions with high Muslim populations, such as the Middle East and South Asia, face a significant burden of diabetes, a condition projected to double in prevalence over the next 25 years.1 Despite inherent risks such as diabetic ketoacidosis, dehydration, thrombosis and episodes of hyperglycaemia or hypoglycaemia, a substantial proportion of patients with both type 1 (42.8%) and type 2 diabetes (78.7%) choose to fast.2 Moreover, approximately half of the patients with diabetes do not alter their food, fluid or sugar intake during Ramadan.2",
