  "abstract": "Welcome to this special BJSM issue produced in collaboration with the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM) in advance of the CASEM Annual Scientific Conference. As with previous CASEM-themed editions, this issue reflects both the scientific priorities of our discipline and the evolving clinical, ethical and societal contexts in which sport and exercise medicine is practised. Sport and exercise medicine (SEM) is increasingly called on to integrate complexity across musculoskeletal health, sex and gender, and lived experience, and the articles selected for this edition were done with a lens towards the importance of the growth of women in the field of SEM.",
