  "abstract": "Sport science has historically relied on homogenous, often uncritical language that reinforces dominant norms and marginalises those who fall outside them. Language is never neutral, and is integral in constructing our perception, memory, assumptions, communication, and beyond; this fundamentally influences how we understand and engage with the world. The overwhelmingly Western, colonial, deficit-based, and binary language of sport science fails to capture the complexity or reality of experiences outside of the privileged domain; in doing so, we diminish the relevance and rigour of our work and perpetuate interpersonal and systemic inequity in sport.",
