  "abstract": "It is exciting that the journal is now 100 years old. So much has happened in that time, so many world events, so many advances in technology and advances in science and medicine. It is an important time for us to reflect on this history and look forward with optimism. The journal ethos since inception has been to publish papers to impact on practice, disseminating information to improve outcomes for children and young people. I was privileged to be editor-in-chief of the Archives of Disease in Childhood journal group from 2012 to 2017, by which time the Fetal and Neonatal edition (added in 1988) and Education and Practice (launched in 2004) had joined as key partners. I was privileged to work with a fabulous team of editors, across the three editions, making the initial assessment on around 10 000 submissions and hopefully managing to publish the best and most relevant content.",
