  "abstract": "As is pointed out elsewhere in these reminiscences, much has changed over the timespan of Archives with regard to the diagnosis and treatment of those born with congenitally malformed hearts. It is salutary to realise, as is emphasised by Professor Barron, that more adults are now alive in the UK with congenitally malformed hearts than children. This reflects the huge advances not only in treatment but also in diagnosis. This, in turn, reflects in part the equally significant advances that have been made in understanding the underlying anatomy. But the anatomy, of course, has not changed. It is the approaches to anatomy that have changed, with most of these changes taking place over the past half-century.",
