  "abstract": "Introduction and Background The RCPCH trainee charter was launched in 2019, stipulating trainees be rostered for at-least 8 (ST1-3) or 16 (ST4+) hours/month of supporting professional activity (SPA) time to complete non-patient-facing work-related activities.Trainee charter survey at Yorkshire and Humber, 2021: Provision of SPA time – less than 28% of trainees reported 4 hours per month of rostered SPA time. It was identified as one of the areas of improvementAims and Objectives To evaluate the SPA time for Paediatrics trainees at Mid Yorkshire Teaching Trust from March to September 2024To determine the challenges faced to get allocated SPA on the rotaHow can we improvise in the futureMethodology Survey for the rota team.Survey for trainees- anonymous.The survey comprised of two separate areas for analysis- Closed questions – allowing for rating and comparison with recommended standard as per trainee charter.Open comments – written responses on both placement positives and improvements/issuesQualitative analysis of the data- manual/thematic analysisResults Rota Team Survey SPA time embedded in the rota for 1–2 years.Before this, there was no allocated SPA time.The current allocated SPA time is as per RCPCH recommendation.Challenges faced:o enough space on the rota- ensuring clinic time, AL/SLo Overcoming barriers – department culture/trainees not used to SPA allocation.o Ensuring good use of the timeo Finding appropriate place for the SPA time as no offices available for this away from the wardQuotes : ‘If SDLT time hadn’t been planned in at the point of rota design it would be very difficult to achieve it. This has to be part of the essential requirements of the rota, just as it is for consultant job planning.’ (-Rota team)Trainees’ Survey Results Survey for trainees posted at MYTT trust from March 2024 – September 2024 (6 months)Survey had 14 questions – 8 closed questions for comparison and 6 open questions for comments.14/18 trainees took part in the survey – 78% response rate.ST1-8 Paediatrics trainees took part in the survey.100% allocated SPA time – demonstrating high standards.6% found it more than their previous job and 14.3% about the same.30% had to cover clinical areas during SPA time – out of which 50% got allocated another day.Positive impact on portfolio and work-life balanceQuotes: ‘It has helped me a lot, I don’t have to do the portfolio and audit work in my own personal time.
